GUSTAVO
RODRIGUES
Sepik River, Papua New Guinea, 2017
After more than 25 years developing and producing nonfiction content with Brazilian and international partners, Gustavo Gama Rodrigues founded MEDIAetc. The road to this point has been long—and quite improbable. It's involved nearly eighty countries, thousands of kilometers, and countless stories captured in the gap between fact and memory. Always working with a camera on his back, a notebook in his pocket, and his memory in recording mode.
A storyteller
on demand.
Since 1996, Guga has collaborated with companies such as YouTube Originals, HBO, BBC, Channel 4 UK, National Geographic US, History Channel, Arte France, Red Bull Media House, Turner, TV Globo, Globosat, and Globoplay. Between 2001 and 2013, he appeared in 17 seasons of the CBS reality show "The Amazing Race" and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on the seventh season. He directed the feature films "Bernardes" (GNT, APCA 2014) and "Linha de Frente" (Globo Filmes, 2023), as well as the musical series "Vamos Tocar" (Canal BIS, 2021), which won the Bronze Medal at the New York Film Festivals.

MEDIAetc is a production company specializing in non-fiction audiovisual content, founded by me in 2021. After 20 years developing and producing original documentaries, TV series, and immersive experiences that cross geographic and thematic boundaries, I decided to undertake more and larger projects within my own home. I believe that the real world, with its contradictions, beauties, and complexities, can be much more engaging than any product created by fiction—as long as the stories are well represented in all their potential.
We're based in São Paulo, but our perspective and scope are global. We've filmed in over 80 countries and created for partners such as Canal OFF, Globoplay, HBO, ARTE, ESPN, GNT, TV Globo, YouTube Originals, and others. We work with diverse teams, integrating experienced talent and new creative voices, always committed to active listening, in-depth research, and a constant search for narratives that matter—and that resonate. It's impossible to persevere in documentary filmmaking without this aptitude and dedication. Our projects move between direct cinema and creative documentary, between poetic chronicle and investigative journalism, between aesthetic immersion and social impact. We're interested in stories that reveal—and also stories that question.
MEDIAetc was born from my desire to make documentaries differently: observing the world carefully, respecting differences, valuing listening, and dedicating myself to deep narratives. I increasingly believe that documentary filmmaking is an act of resistance and hope.
