Filmed in the Upper Xingu

In the Upper Xingu, the Wauja people and the children of shaman Muri celebrate Kwarup (Kaumai), a nine-day ancestral farewell ritual that brings together collective mourning, interethnic gatherings, music and memory. Combining extensive archival material with an intimate look at rites of passage, this documentary honors the legacy of the community’s foremost guardian of stories in a work created jointly by the filmmakers and the Indigenous community itself.
